Anicha gets its name from the Pali word for impermanence, the constant ebb and flow of all things in the universe. The music this quintet creates is in keeping with its name: shifting colors and timbres blend into the next; a driving rock rhythm melts into an avant garde melody; minimalist ostinati underpin a lyrical line. Featuring Mariel Berger (accordion), Sebastian Noelle (guitar), Mark Small (clarinet and bass clarinet), Jean Rohe (voice), and Satoshi Takeishi (percussion), this quintet of composers and their mismatched instruments make up a fresh, dynamic chamber ensemble that flows between jazz, classical avantgarde, and folk styles. Anicha has performed in notable venues around NYC including Barbés, Douglass St. Collective, Tutuma Social Club, and the Brooklyn Lyceum.

Now, with the release of their debut record, Open Secrets, the group stands poised to attract even more listeners to their skillful playing and effervescent compositions. A recent review said: "this ensemble blends serious compositional structure with a knack for memorable hooks."
